mplayer, edgy, asus pundit-r

Earlier, I wrote on how to get TV out working on Ubuntu and an Asus Pundit-R.
I recently upgraded to Edgy Eft (release 6.10) and all of a sudden, video output looked really weird. The bottom third of various videos in various formats was getting cut off. Not very nice for a machine whose purpose [...]

odometers 2007

A follow-up to last year’s post (odometers 2006), here are the mileage stats from last year:

car (vw tdi golf): 51,793, meaning I drove 8793 miles in 2006
commuter bike (trek 7600): 4142, meaning I rode 1294 “commuter miles”

sally scrivner is annoying

Well, after taking a little break from blogging, it’s time to start up again. And in typical fashion, I choose to get back in the groove of things by making fun of someone.
Sally Scrivner is a shrill, annoying Fort Collins resident who apparently hates students because they are ruining her neighborhood, and she doesn’t have [...]

exuent, chased by an oso

Landed back stateside on Saturday and spent the past few daysenjoying the USA. Now, as the day spent remembering the man whodreamed draws down, I’ve a few final flotsammy observations tofinish out our correspondence.

friend the Deej’s self-induced hypothermia due to using [...]

“Bien.” —- “Good.”
“Chino! Como estas?” —- “Chinaman! How are you?”
“Bien.” —- “Good.”
“Vamos!” —- “Let’s go!”

And so it went for our 7 hour ascent, until we reached the Cotopaxi summit (5897m, 19,347 ft).

Cry Danger movie

Apologies for the anticlimax, but frankly there isn’t tons [...]

a-climb-a-schedual-ization

Bursty. Things flow in dribs, drabs, and then deluges. All our lives, it seems the pattern is to work hard so that we can… rest. Fifty weeks of labor, two weeks of vacation; fifty years of toil, a few years of retirement bliss. Oddity.
Today we are sloth embodied. Well deserved, in my opinion. Bagged four [...]

up in flames

.!.
“Throw some more wood on the baby; that’ll make it burn better.”
“Too bad we don’t have any gasoline…”
And such was the climax of several idyllic days whiled away in Quito.
It was a natural reaction after a hectic frantic whirly-bird couple of days in Las Vegas for a family reunion, the highlight of which (other than [...]
