If you regarded the Tasmanian platypus as common, well, boy howdy, were you ever wrong.
The platypus is regarded as common in Tasmania, but there had been concern over its status due to the threat of the fungal disease mucormycosis, which was common in northern Tasmanian platypus populations,
But don’t panic!
It’s pleasing to see that the disease has declined in prevalence over the last 15 years and now appears to be having a reduced impact on the species.
